Police Parade 94 Shi’ites Over Killing Of Policemen, Burnt Vehicles

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, has paraded 94 of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ite suspects arrested over last Sunday’s riot in Abuja, which left two police personnel dead and four others, including a woman police officer injured.

Describing the IMN as a proscribed terrorist organisation, CP Igweh said several dangerous weapons were recovered from them including the blood-stained cutlasses and knives used in killing the police officers and inflicting severe injuries on other personnel.

CP Igweh also noted that the Shi’ites as a proscribed group for terrorism, had no right to March or to assembly in the first place, adding that they will be charged to court and vowed that the command was still hunting for the sponsors of the terrorist group and other members.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested a Naval Personnel, Able Seaman Abdulrashid Mohammed, who was a Guard at the home of a former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ishaya Ibrahim, for the murder of the son of the ex-naval Chief.

According to CP Igweh, the suspect had two Sundays ago, August 18, 2024, robbed Aminu Ibrahim, the son of the former CNS at Maitama, of the SUV and subsequently opened fire on him, killing him instantly.

The 30 years old Naval Rating, who confessed to the dastardly act, was arrested four days after the Police launched a Manhunt for him, at Apo Mechanic Village where he had taken the Prado Jeep to be sold and cannibalised into parts.
