Integrity of elections non-negotiable – Amupitan

The new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan, on Thursday, October 23, 2025 assumed office with a vow to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

Speaking at the INEC headquarters in Abuja during his inaugural meeting with directors, shortly after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu, Amupitan pledged to deliver free, fair and credible elections that would reflect the true will of Nigerians.

He emphasized the need for the members of the body to work together in unity because credibility in elections are paramount, as well as ensuring that every voter feels confident that their vote will count, in a bid to address the issue of voter apathy in Nigeria.

Amupitan, who was accompanied by his family and top officials from the University of Jos, where he previously served, said his leadership would prioritize staff welfare and teamwork to achieve the commission’s goal.

He also urged the commission not to compromise its values or processes, as that could have consequences.
