LG Allocation: Osun APC raises alarm over alleged plot to picket UBA branches

  • Accuses Adeleke Govt of Plans to Instigate Pensioners
  • APC Alerts Police, Public

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has got the wind of rumoured readiness of the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration to sponsor a protest of some state government retirees at all the branches of the United Bank for Africa(UBA) across the state.

Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information in a statement on Sunday, February 08, 2026, claimed that the protest is over the payment of the federal allocations to the reinstated APC local government council chairmen and councillors on Monday.

According to the APC, the rumour has it that some of the top political functionaries serving under the administration of the embattled Governor Adeleke and the immediate elder female sibling of the governor allegedly hatched the plans to sponsor the protests of the old pensioners and other hired old people to lay siege to the first generation bank in order to curry unmerited sympathy from the unsuspecting members of the public over the local government federal allocations being paid to the Local Government Councils directly.

The statement read, “It was gathered that Adeleke and his co-travellers allegedly resolved to result to the sponsorship of the protests by the combination of some genuine pensioners and the hired old people in the state when it was obvious that they have meritoriously lost outright in the court of law and the court of the public opinions.

“It would be recalled that all the efforts of the embattled Governor Adeleke-led administration to enlist the services of the civil society groups, media personalities and professional groups to twist several judgments of court, the Supreme Court inclusive, on the federal allocations being paid directly to the local government councils in the state had also proved abortive.

“It is also in the public domain how the Governor Adeleke-led government sponsored the abandonment of work for almost a year by a faction of the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in an apparently disgraceful sympathy for the governor over his refusal to honour and respect the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on 10th February, 2025 on the local government councils.

“It is also on record how Governor Adeleke and his cohorts have been taking turns to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public through the use of propaganda and subterfuge, which has become the hallmark of his infamous administration.

“Just yesterday, the 7th day of February 2026, the state commissioner for information, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, featured on an Osun State Broadcasting Corporation(OSBC) programme stage-managed as ‘Stewardship’ on to which some of the radio stations in the state hooked, where he strangely took over the management of the event by dictating to the supposed anchorman some pliable selected legal practitioners enlisted to do his bidding on the local government allocations issue.

“We are condemning in its entirety the hiring of some pensioners and non-pensioners by Governor Adeleke for the rumoured planned protests at the branches of the UBA in the state for whatever reason as the matter is already before the court.

“We view the proposed protests being allegedly sponsored by Governor Adeleke and members of his family as a ploy to plunge the state into an avoidable crisis which is capable of throwing the state into a needless disturbance of public peace.

“We are appealing to the state commissioner of Police and other security agencies in the state to rise up to the occasion with a view to nipping the criminal act in the bud.

“Both the mastermind and the foot soldiers of the act should be investigated for prosecution if only to serve as a lesson to those who may be nursing similar approach to settle a matter that is before the court.

“We enjoin the members of the public to warn their aged parents masquerading as pensioners not to make themselves willing tools in the hands of desperate policians as it is wicked, sacrilegious and inhuman to subject our senior citizens to avoidable danger associated with such alleged government-sponsored protests.

“Governor Adeleke, members of his family and his political associates should be held responsible should any violence erupt from the allegedly planned sponsored picketing of the UBA branches in the state by both the genuine pensioners and the hired people unless they hurriedly come public to denounce having input in the planned protests.”
