BREAKING: PDP Clears Jonathan For Presidential Primary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan by waiver to participate in its presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced on Tuesday in Abuja by a member of the Tanimu Turaki-led PDP National Working Committee (NWC) Presidential and Gubernatorial Screening Committee, Babangida Aliyu, shortly after the screening exercise.

Aliyu said the committee granted Jonathan a waiver to enable him participate in the contest despite earlier procedural requirements tied to his nomination.

The development comes amid internal disagreements within the party, with a faction reportedly backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde earlier indicating that Jonathan would be screened as a presidential aspirant.

However, Jonathan was reportedly absent during the screening exercise and also failed to submit his nomination form on Monday as earlier expected.

Despite his absence, the screening committee proceeded with the exercise and confirmed his clearance by waiver.

Further details on the timetable and arrangements for the PDP presidential primary are expected to be released by the party in the coming days.
