The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said the confirmation of Professor Joash Amupitan as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the Senate was a mere formality.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this statement Tuesday, October 21,2025, while fielding questions in an interview on a television programme.

Abdullahi stated that the pattern of approvals by the 10th Senate shows that the President gets whatever he wants.

Describing the approval by the Senate as mere formality, Abdullahi noted that it was a requirement, and Amupitan would not have been denied the confirmation for no reason at all.

The ADC’s mouthpiece, however, noted that the party is willing to give the new INEC chairman a fair chance to deliver on his promises, stressing that Nigeria’s electoral challenges are rooted in the human factor, not the absence of infrastructure or technology.
