Court suspends appointment of new Owa, imposition of N10m application form


The High Court sitting in llesa, Osun state has granted an injunction restraining the Osun State Government from taking further steps to fill the vacant stool of Owa Obokun Adimula of ljesaland.

The case was instituted by the Contestants, Head and Principal Members of Ofokutu Royal Family of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House.

The Presiding judge, Justice A.A. Aderibigbe restrained llesa West Local Government, Governor of Osun State, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice from taking steps regarding the presentation, nomination, selection, election, installation or appointment of Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup or any person as Owa of ljesaland or Owa Obokun Adimula of ljesaland.

The judge restrained the defendants from taking further step as regards the subject matter of this suit pending the determination and hearing of the pending application.

Part of the claims of the Claimants is that members of Haastrup Royal Family have no right to contest the vacant stool of Owa Obokun Adimula of ljesaland having produced two Owas consecutively in 1896 and 1942 respectively when it was the turn of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House.

The claimant also sought to restrain the defendants from imposing ten million Naira as cost for application form on Owa contestants.

The judge adjourned the case to 14th January, 2025.
