Federal Government, ASUU bicker over strike as CONUA rejects planned action


The federal government has cautioned the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against the decision to embark on strike today, October 13,2025, reiterating that the “no work, no pay” policy remains in force.

The minister of education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the minister of state for education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, said there’s no need for the union to go on strike as the government has addressed every request made by the union.

While stressing government’s commitment to ensuring that students remain in school, the ministers expressed disappointment that ASUU had chosen to proceed with strike action despite government’s compliance with agreed timelines.

ASUU has however ASUU, however inststs on shutting down the unversities, alleging federal government’s failure to meet their demands. The National President of the union, Professor Chris Piwuna, said they cannot be intimidated by the ‘no work, no pay’ declaration.
