FRSC, ILESA UNIT COMMAND EMBARKS ON WELFARE, SAFETY ENLIGHTENMENT EXERCISE IN ILESA ON NEW YEAR EVE

In furtherance of the directive of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and in line with the strategic objectives of Operation Zero Tolerance Special Patrol, the RS11.12 Ilesa Unit Command on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, successfully carried out a motorist welfare and safety enlightenment exercise involving the distribution of customized FRSC table water and safety flyers to road users.

The exercise took place along the Ilesa–Ife Route at Exit-4 Junction, Ilesa, a critical traffic corridor with high vehicular movement, especially during the end-of-year festive period. The initiative was designed to address driver fatigue, stress, and distraction, which according to FRSC, are major contributors to road traffic crashes during long-distance travels.

The Unit Commander, ACC Bashir Jimoh, alongside the CRC OPS led the operation, with the full participation of officers and marshals of the Command. This hands-on leadership underscored the Command’s commitment to proactive and people-centered strategies aimed at achieving zero road traffic crashes and fatalities.

During the exercise, customized FRSC table water was freely distributed to motorists to help cool and calm drivers, reduce travel-induced tension, and promote alertness behind the wheel. In addition, flyers bearing different safety inscriptions were also distributed to reinforce critical road safety messages and ensure continuous engagement beyond the point of contact.

Addressing motorists in a message titled “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving, the Unit Commander warned against the dangers of distracted driving, including the use of mobile phones while driving, inattentiveness, speeding, and other risky behaviors that often result in avoidable crashes. Motorists were also urged to consciously take responsibility for their actions on the road, obey traffic rules, and prioritize the safety of themselves, their passengers, and other road users.

ACC Jimoh further urged passengers to also imbibe the spirit of cautioning their drivers while driving and report any defiant driver to the FRSC officers they encounter during their journey.

The exercise also provided a valuable platform for interactive safety enlightenment, allowing officers to engage drivers in short but impactful discussions on safe driving practices, defensive driving, use of seat belts, and the need to take regular breaks during long journeys.

The event attracted significant public interest and was well covered by media practitioners from different radio stations, including Diamond FM, Ilesa, Osun State, further amplifying the road safety messages and extending their reach to a wider audience beyond the immediate location of the exercise.

Motorists, however, commended the FRSC for the thoughtful initiative, describing it as timely, humane, and impactful. The calm atmosphere created by the welfare gesture enhanced receptiveness to safety education, thereby ensuring that the message of responsible road use was well received and internalized.

The Command emphasized its commitment to sustaining such preventive and enlightenment-driven interventions as part of its contribution to the successful implementation of Operation Zero Tolerance and the realization of the FRSC mandate of safer roads and zero road traffic deaths.
