Peter Obi & Late Okupe
The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former Director-General of his 2023 presidential campaign, Dr Doyin Okupe, who passed away at the age of 72, describing him as “a man who desired a better Nigeria.”
Obi said in a statement via X on Friday, adding that Okupe’s death was a profound loss, not only to his family and loved ones but to the entire nation.
He urged members of the Obidient Movement and the public to pray for the repose of Okupe’s soul and support his family in this difficult time.
Okupe, a medical doctor turned politician, was a key figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He previously served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Okupe, who hailed from Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, reportedly died in the early hours of Friday in Lagos after battling an illness.
