Pictures: Body of missing okada rider found inside well in Ijebu-Jesa

The body of a robbery victim, simply identified as Adeola, was on Tuesday found inside a well at an uncompleted building at the Oke Agunla area of Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State.

Adeola, a popular commercial motorcyclist known as an “Okada” rider, had gone missing since Friday evening, as he did not return home from work.

One of the victim’s family members told Diamond FM that all efforts to find him, proved abortive until the tragic discovery this morning.

His mobile phone also rang endlessly but was not answered until it switched off.

The assailants are believed to have dumped the body in the well and made away with his motorcycle.

An eyewitness who spoke to Diamond FM Ilesa described the incident as shocking and unnerving, adding that the building had been abandoned for the past three months, until the site owner, returned to the property for the first time in months.

“He told us that he arrived this morning with some diggers to continue digging the well and stumbled upon the lifeless body.

“The attackers have poured sand on him to cover the body and it was already swollen and producing fowl smell. The discovery prompted him to immediately raise the alarm,” he said.

Chairman of Oke Agunla community, Lukman Balogun, said the matter was swiftly reported to the police after the entire neighborhood was alerted by the site owner’s outcry early Tuesday morning.

Men of the Nigeria Police Force were on ground at the scene, to oversee the evacuation of the body. The remains have since been deposited at a morgue in Ilesa as authorities continue their investigations into the sad incident.
