Pro-Labour Activist Abiodun Aremu Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver, Burial Set For October 23

The family of the late activist, Abiodun Aremu, has agreed with the Labour Movement to postpone his burial to Thursday, October 13, 2025.

This is to allow organised labour and sympathisers adequate time to mobilise and give him a befitting farewell.

Aremu, who died on Sunday, had been due for interment today, but the Nigeria Labour Movement said the date was moved by about two weeks to allow broader attendance.

Former Secretary-General of the Organisation of African Trade Union Unity and ex-Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Owei Lakemfa, announced this in a statement today, October 13,2025.

The veteran labour leader and Secretary of the Joint Action Front was reported to have been hit by a vehicle around 6 p.m. yesterday, October 12,2025, while crossing the road near his residence in Ota, Ogun State. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him failed.
