A Magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday , January 21, 2026, remanded two defendants, Chief Agunbiade Adewumi and Chief Michael Olagunju who are accused of contempt and illegal installation of one Prince Adekunle Ebenezer Adewusi as the Alo of llo-Ijesa.
Chief Magistrate M.A Olatunji, ordered that the two defendants remain in custody after they were arraigned before the court on a five-count charge to include likely breach of peace, contempt of court, illegal installation and felony.
The Prosecutor and Osun state Commissioner of Police, said Adewumi (68) and Olagunju (86), alongside others at large on the 12th day of December, 2025 illegally installed Prince Adekunle Ebenezer Adewusi as the Alo of llo-Ijesa, a move contrary to the law and punishable under the law.
The Prosecution added that the unlawful installation of Prince Adekunle Ebenezer Adewusi as the Alo of llo-Ijesa also held when the case of installation was still pending at Ijebu-ljesa High Court contrary to the law of the land.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate M.A Olatunji declined request to grant the accused bail and adjourned the case till January 26, 2026 for hearing.
The charge sheet detailed the counts as:
That you (1) AGUNBIADE ADEWUMI ‘M’ (2) MICHAEL OLAGUNJU ‘M’ and others at large on the 12th day of December, 2025 at about 10;am at Ilo-ljesa via Ijebu-ljesa in Ijebu-Ijesa Magisterial District, sitting at Osogbo did conspire among yourselves to commit offences to wit conduct likely to cause breach of peace, contempt of court and illegal installation of traditional ruler and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 517 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
COUNT II: That you 1) AGUNBIADE ADEWUMI ‘M’ (2) MICHAEL OLAGUNJU ‘M and others now at large on the same date time place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District did engage in act likely to cause breach of peace by installing Prince Adekunle Ebenezer Adewusi as the Alo of llo-Ijesa when the case of installation is still pending at Ijebu-ljesa High Court and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249(d) of the Criminal Code Capt 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State 2002.
COUNT III: That you 1) AGUNBIADE ADEWUMI ‘M’ (2) MICHAEL OLAGUNJU ‘M and others now at large on the same date time place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District did commit an act of intentional disrespect to Ijebu-Ijesa High Court by acting in contrast to the status quo order in suit No. HIJ/13/2019 and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 133(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State 2002.
COUNT IV:- That you 1) AGUNBIADE ADEWUMI ‘M’ (2) MICHAEL OLAGUNJU “M and others now at large on the same date time place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District did without Osun State Government approval install one Prince Adekunle Ebenezer Adewusi into the vacant stool of Alo of Ilo-ljesa and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 21(1) of Osun State Chiefs Law Cap 25 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2007
COUNT V: That you 1) AGUNBIADE ADEWUMI ‘M’ (2) MICHAEL OLAGUNJU ‘M and others now at large on the same date time place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: Personation as the Alo of llo-ljesa and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 484 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State 2002.
