A lot of work has gone into improving the number of women in STEM. In what ways can women who are already there thrive and do better?
In the ever-evolving STEM landscape, women who are already part of the field can thrive and achieve even greater success by adopting several empowering strategies, including recognising their worth and having unwavering confidence in their abilities, surrounding themselves with a robust support system of mentors, peers, and allies who champion diversity and inclusion, embracing a growth mindset and committing to lifelong learning, taking ownership of your career and actively advocating for your accomplishments and ambitions. Also important is supporting other women, empowering them is a collective effort. Celebrate the achievements of fellow women in tech and offer support and mentorship to those who may be facing similar challenges. By fostering a culture of support and collaboration, we can uplift one another and drive positive change in the industry. Pursue leadership roles and opportunities to make an even greater impact in your field. Lead by example and be a role model for aspiring women in STEM. Share your experiences and success stories, demonstrating that it is possible to thrive and break barriers in the field. Engage in networking events, conferences, and industry gatherings to expand your connections and collaborate with like-minded professionals. Networking opens doors to new opportunities, insights, and collaborations that can fuel your growth and success. Finally, strive for a healthy work-life integration that enables you thrive both professionally and personally. Prioritise self-care and wellbeing to maintain a sustainable and fulfilling career in STEM.

Many women look up to you and want to tow this path you’re on; what would you tell them to guide them?
I will say all the aspiring women who look up to me and wish to take a similar path should be courageous in pursuing your aspirations, even if they seem daunting. Dare to dream big and go after those seemingly audacious goals. Trust in your capabilities and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Have the courage to step out of your comfort zone and seize the chances that come your way. Be proactive in seeking opportunities to grow and excel in your chosen field. Keep an open mind and be receptive to new experiences. Whether it’s through networking, skill-building programmes, or mentorship, actively seek avenues that can propel your career forward. Surround yourself with a strong support system of mentors, peers, and allies who believe in your potential. Seek out organisations and communities that advocate for diversity and inclusivity. A supportive network can provide valuable guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. The world of technology and professional growth is ever evolving, embrace a mindset of continuous learning and stay updated with the latest industry trends and innovations. Invest in your personal development and be receptive to new knowledge. Also, take ownership of your career journey and actively advocate for your accomplishments and ambitions. Speak up, ask for opportunities, and negotiate for the recognition and opportunities you deserve. And finally, remember success is not always immediate; it’s a journey with its ups and downs. Embrace the process, be patient with yourself, and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Each step forward contributes to your growth and progress.

What is one thing you wish you would change to improve the lives of Nigerian women if you could?
It would be to empower them with access to quality education and skills that grant them financial freedom. Education is a fundamental right that has the potential to transform lives and break down barriers, but unfortunately, many Nigerian women still face the challenge of limited access to education. By focusing on education and skill development, we can equip women with the knowledge and tools they need to excel in various fields, including entrepreneurship, technology, and other industries. Providing opportunities for women to acquire valuable skills not only enhances their employability but also opens doors to financial independence and economic empowerment. Moreover, when women are economically empowered, it has ripple positive effects throughout their families and communities. Financially independent women can better support their families, make informed decisions about their well being, and actively participate in shaping their communities’ future.

What does a typical day in your life look like?
A typical day in my life involves balancing the roles of a wife, a mother of two, a product management professional and an entrepreneur. I prioritise showing up as much as I can for my family while juggling tasks and overseeing my ventures. Multitasking is key as I switch between responsibilities, responding to emails, and caring for my family. Despite the challenges, I find fulfillment in making a positive impact through education, empowering aspiring product managers, and using technology for social good. Each day is a rewarding journey of growth and inspiration.

If you were not doing what you do now, what else you would have been doing?
I would have pursued a career in education. Education has always been a passion of mine, and I believe in its transformative power to shape minds and create a positive impact on individuals and society as a whole. In this alternative path, I would have explored opportunities in educational leadership, curriculum development, or even teaching. I would have been committed to creating innovative and inclusive learning environments, empowering students with knowledge and skills to thrive in the rapidly evolving world. Moreover, I might have considered roles in educational policy and advocacy, working towards improving access to quality education for underserved communities. Ensuring that every individual has access to a strong education is a cause I’m passionate about and I would have worked tirelessly to make a difference in this area. Regardless of the path I would have taken, my core values of making a positive impact, fostering growth, and empowering others to reach their potential would have remained unchanged. The pursuit of meaningful work that contributes to the betterment of society is at the heart of my aspirations, whether it’s in product management, entrepreneurship or education.
