‘Account for N183bn Osun LG allocation’ – Ex-Chairmen tell Adeleke

The Local Government Chairmen elected on the fifteenth October, 2022, have asked the Ademola Adeleke administration to account for the funds allocated to the 30 Local Government Council of the State, amounting to N183.19 billion.

The Chairmen accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in Osun of tampering with the allocation accrued to the local government areas from November 2022 to November 2024, in violation of the law.

Speaking at a Press Conference held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Osogbo, they called on the federal government and relevant agencies to probe the use of the LG funds in the interest of the people.

Addressing the media on behalf of local government Chairmen elected on 15th October, 2022, Hon. Adepoju Oladele noted that the action of the Adeleke administration is against the judgement of the Supreme Court on the sovereignty of local governments.

He said the issue is of serious concern as it was executed without a democratically elected local government officials in place.

Adepoju said, “the administration Ademola Adeleke had violated the 1999 Constitution by withholding and spending the Federal Allocation in the total sum of N183,196,629,321.19 standing in credit of the 30 Local Government Council from November, 2022-November, 2024.

“Despite the fact that the actions by the Adeleke administration is against the spirit and decision of the Supreme Court on the sovereignty of local governments in the country, especially as regards their funding, we are deeply concerned by the flagrant abuse and disregard to the judicial pronouncement of the highest court in the land.

“We all recall that on 11th July, 2024, in a Suit No: SC/CV/343/2024, the Supreme Court in its landmark judgment, forbade State governments in the country frorn tampering with Local Governments allocations.”

While giving a breakdown of the allocation by local government areas, Adepoju noted that the action of the PDP administration in Osun has impoverished the people of the state, especially those at the grassroots.

“The mind-boggling question is: Where is the over N183 billion received by the Ademola Adeleke Government on behalf our Local Government Councils gone to? What has Adeleke’s administration done with people’s money at the grassroots without anything to show?

“The Federal government and its relevant agencies should see to this by ensuring that justice is done for the people of Osun, especially those at the grassroots,” he said.

Also speaking, Chief Owoeye Abiodun Samuel, said the Adeleke government needs to explain to the good people of Osun, how it spent the LG funds.

Also present at the press conference were Alhaji Yusuf Bashir Akintegbe, Hon Elugbaju Olayera Jacob and Hon Adepoju Johnson Oladele and other members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
