I’m Not Stepping Down — Ijesa South Aspirant Ayeni Dismisses Withdrawal Rumours

IJESA SOUTH — Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Lawrence Babatunde Ayeni has strongly refuted swirling rumours that he has withdrawn his ambition to represent the Ijesa South Federal Constituency, describing the claims as “false and misleading.”

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant confirmed that he has officially obtained his nomination form, completed the party’s screening process, and remains fully in the race.

“I am not stepping down for anybody,” Ayeni declared, seeking to set the record straight amid a flurry of calls, messages, and speculation.

The former candidate also dismissed suggestions that any aspirant has received official endorsement from either the party or the Presidency.

“It is equally untrue that the Presidency has endorsed any aspirant. APC remains a party that rewards loyalty, commitment, and perseverance, and the process is still open and ongoing,” he said.

Ayeni labelled claims of a pre-determined anointed candidate as “mere rumours and political propaganda.”

Ayeni, who contested the last election, reminded supporters that his previous loss was not due to a lack of popular support but because of violence and hooliganism.

“We cannot forget how many of our people were killed, maimed, and displaced from their homes by the opposition. Several court cases are still ongoing in respect of these unfortunate events,” he stated.

Despite not holding political office, Ayeni noted that he has continued to make sacrifices for the party’s growth and the welfare of his constituency.

He urged supporters, party faithful, and well-wishers to remain steadfast.

“Victory is near, and together, we shall celebrate soon,” he added.
