A public affairs analyst and social commentator, Prince Adediran Adewale, has said that empowering state police will further enhance security conditions in the states, calls on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to do right by Nigerians and make things easier for the citizens.
Adediran made the call when he featured as an analyst on Diamond FM Ilesa, Osun State News and Current Affairs programme “News Talk” on Monday August 26,2024.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of two officers and three others who were unconscious as at press time, following an attack by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as ‘Shi’ites’, who reportedly launched an attack on some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force at Wuse Junction by traffic light on Sunday August 25,2024.
Adediran emphasized that introducing state policing and the empowerment of local vigilantes would go a long way to help and inmprove security in the state.
He said “empower local vigilantes and introduce state policing so that we can improve the security of our states. Criminals have become so bold now that they break into prisons to release inmates, escalating the rate of kidnapping in the country. When you police your state, we can enhance security”.
Recall that the people of Gobir in Sokoto state were mourning the death of their Emir, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa who was murdered by bandits, the hoodlums have reportedly invaded the community again and kidnapped over 150 people.
Speaking on this issue, Adediran said “ there’s too many lapses in some quarters of the government that these criminals have become so bold. It all started with the Boko Haram and now bandits have the power to kill a monarch and again kidnapped over 150 people from the same state. It has happened so let us look for solutions by introducing state police.”
When discussing statement made by the President of the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji on the state of hardship, poverty and corruption in the country, Adediran called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to do right by Nigerians and make life easy for the citizens.
“It is rather unfortunate that we’re now begging someone voted in by Nigerians, who is supposed to make life better for us. The issue of begging is an insult to us as Nigerians, I’m not saying his policies will not work but they’re too harsh on Nigerians”.
Earlier, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says his administration has been taking hard decisions aimed at making life easier for Nigerians, vowing that his policies will soon bring relief to Nigerians.
He then urged the President to give his economic policies a human face.
