Yoruba Monarchs berates level of Insecurity, call for establishment of State Police, empowerment of Amotekun

In pursuit of lasting solutions to the security challenges in Yoruba lands and the nation, the House of Oduduwa, Ile Ife, organized a one-day Yoruba Security Summit with the themes: ‘Kidnapping and Banditry: Overcoming the Twin Menace’ and ‘Yoruba Legacy of African Science: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.’

Speaking at the Summit held at the Ojaja Arena, Ife Garden Resort, Ile-Ife, the guest speaker, Dr. Solomon Arase, Chairman of the Police Service Commission and former Nigeria Inspector General of Police, noted that the country’s insecurity issues trace back to the Biafra war.

The second guest speaker, Araba Awo of Osogbo land, Dr. Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, emphasized the importance of preserving Yoruba traditions and culture amidst modernization.

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, criticized the nation’s security situation and called for the cooperation of traditional rulers to find lasting solutions.

In his welcome address, the host of the summit, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Babatunde Ogunwusi, lamented the continuous killing of Yorubas by kidnappers and bandits across the Southwest. He stressed the importance of traditional rulers in protecting lives and properties.

During the summit, a minute of silence was observed in honor of Yoruba traditional rulers and victims of kidnapping and banditry across the Southwest.”

Meanwhile, dignatries present at the event includes, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, former APC National Secretary, Omisore, Traditional Leaders, Religion Leaders, Security heads, Politician among others
